Led By: Christine Willis

Cost:  Free! Registration Required This program is supported in part by a grant from the Medford Arts Council, a local commission that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the City of Medford. This is workshop 1 of 4 of my Accessible Art: Community Workshops Initiative, providing free workshops to the community.

Discover the magic of natural color in this beginner-friendly indigo dyeing workshop! Perfect for anyone curious about textile arts, this hands-on class introduces the basics of working with indigo, one of the world’s oldest and most captivating natural dyes.

Participants will learn how to prepare fabric, create simple resist patterns, and dip textiles into a live indigo vat to achieve beautiful shades of blue. We’ll cover essential techniques such as folding, binding, and clamping to create unique designs, along with tips for caring for your dyed pieces at home.

No prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own hand-dyed creations and the confidence to continue exploring indigo on your own.

All materials are provided, but feel free to bring 1 up cycled cotton item to dye.
